Experience the Magic of Vintage Tintype Photography!

At Rawhide's Tintypes, I specialize in handcrafted tintypes portraits that are not only perfect for enjoying today, but they can be handed down through generations. These unique images are produced directly on thin metal plates, utilizing original old-time techniques, with each tintype portrait meticulously crafted at every step. Just like in the olden days, I stand firmly behind my work: if you aren't thrilled with your experience, you don't pay. It's as simple as that. However, I have a strong feeling you'll love your tintype portraits!

Make yourself comfortable, take a look around, and give me a holler if you have any questions or want to book a session. You may even spot my furry four-legged feline road trip buddy, Mr. Biggs!

Rawhide's is completely mobile!

To make your session as easy as possible, I can come to you, wherever you happen to be! Your home, your property, or a spot that holds deep meaning to you are all possibilities. I'm based in northwest Montana, but I take my mobile tintype studio all over. Just in 2025 alone, I have been through 14 states, from California to New York, including Toronto, Canada! Being completely mobile also makes it easy to be capturing tintype portraits at your favorite festivals, local events, breweries & coffee shops...you name it. If you see me out and about at an event, I'd be honored if you got a portrait made!

Family Photography

Whether it's a large family portrait covering multiple generations, an anniversary, a newborn, an engagement or wedding, or you simply want to surprise your spouse or significant other with a special, lasting image, I can make it happen. Tintypes that were made in the 1850's are still around today and look amazing, so we know they'll last at least a couple of hundred years, if not far longer. A great way to honor your family and document your history in a very unique, fun way! Have an idea for a shoot or a location? Hit that contact button!

Pop-Ups and Special Events

I travel around the Pacific Northwest to music & art festivals, farmer's markets, car & bike shows, breweries, tattoo parlors, coffee shops, fairs...anywhere I can pop-up my tintype tent or develop straight from my Mobile Studio, I'll go! You might even see me in a town center somewhere, or a national park, or anywhere that something catches my eye. I try to make sure I get out and cover the great events locally around me, while also heading out to other states and across the country as well. I can take graduation shots, special events, weddings, elopements, engagements, sports portraits, rodeos & equestrian events, birthday parties, anniversaries, corporate events and even 'employee of the month' images. You name it, we can try it!

Not Just Portraits!

I'm busy throughout the year capturing compelling tintype images from every location I'm in, with a special focus on the incredible place and people where I live: Montana. I take these tintype images and create specialty art pieces that you can buy straight from my website or at the festivals, markets and events I happen to be at. You'll find one-off exclusive images on metal, as well as limited edition enlarged canvas prints, greeting cards, postcards, as well as t-shirts and hoodies + more. Like any business, sales big & small all help to keep gas in the tank, coffee in the cup, and Mr. Biggs fed!
